I have a background in micro-engineering and biology and my research is focusing on the mechano-regulation of blood cells with the ultimate goal to translate these observations into clinical practice.

Together with my team and collaborators we are currently developing a fundamentally new technology, where physical T cell activation by nanopores augments biochemical T cell stimulation. This novel strategy is based on our recent discovery (external pagePNAS 2021) that T cells sense and get stimulated by physical constraints. This is in stark contrast to all conventional activation methods used by the research community and all companies in this domain, where biochemical stimulation is necessary to activate T cells. It has the potential to improve the ex vivo production of T cells and to address unmet needs in cancer immunotherapies.
